The Salvage Master supervises and manages all aspects of field project work including coordination of mobilization and de-mobilization, personnel supervision, vessel operations, salvage operations and diving operations. The Salvage Master works along with the Project Manager to supervise and direct all field employees on project sites.


The Salvage Master and Project Manager are the leaders of the Project Management Team – they are on an equal level with different responsibilities and each reports directly to the Director of Projects. Resolve has employed this 2-person integrity structure for decades in setting up of projects and have found it to be effective. Both the Salvage Master and Project Manager have responsibility for project success and the 2-person integrity encourages working together in lieu of more of an authoritarian approach that can happen if 1 person is in charge.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes on course of action for projects in partnership with Director team, Workforce Planning to identify the necessary employee deployment needs, Assets for equipment required and HSEQ for the safety analysis for project execution, and partner with local authorities or government agencies for necessary approval for salvage operations
  • Has an excellent knowledge of all aspects of diving and salvage operations and runs the deck operations with ease
  • Demonstrates mastery of core salvage concepts and shows advanced knowledge level of complex salvage concepts
  • Conducts on-site surveys for prospective job opportunities; carries out and reports on casualty / project inspection, assists in salvage plan creation alongside Naval Architect, determines necessary salvage equipment and crew based on plan
  • Is knowledgeable about the material condition of all Resolve equipment on project site
  • Ensures field personnel follow required preventative and routine maintenance on all equipment
  • Provides recommendations for assignments of all project staff and establish the working organization of all operational teams.
  • Supervises and manages all aspects of field project work including coordination of mobilization and de-mobilization, personnel supervision, vessel operations, salvage operations and diving operations
  • Provides and sets an example of leadership in all field assignments
  • Works closely with the field personnel assigned to the project to ensure everyone is accountable and responsible for all duties assigned
  • Keeps the Project Manager apprised of the readiness of all Resolve equipment
  • Manages the salvage team and shore organization in salvage plan execution, adjusting as necessary, effectively communicating updates/ changes/ and status to onsite team, directors, and stakeholders (as applicable)
  • When not working on field projects, the Salvage Master will be assigned to the warehouse to assist in maintenance, improvements, and special projects. He/ she will be expected to expand skills into various areas of heavy equipment operation, welding, rigging, gas/diesel mechanics, hydraulic system design and repair, etc.
  • Assists in efforts to achieve and maintain the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 certification and implementation of quality management processes into Resolve field project operations to improve efficiency and reduce cost. Uses initiative to further the company goals of ISO Certification
  • Work with the Project Manager to ensure all field projects deliver maximum customer satisfaction and profit, while avoiding costly mistakes and equipment damage
  • Strictly enforce all applicable US Coast Guard, OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
  • Has excellent knowledge of all aspects of diving and salvage operations and runs the deck operations with ease
  • Works closely with field personnel to coach, train, and develop more junior Resolve staff. Encourages the overall improvement of personal capability, qualifications, and experience of Resolve field personnel. Assists in identifying and recruiting new talented personnel to augment Resolve field personnel roster
  • Reads and understands site safety plan
  • Follows instructions and ensures that safety precautions are being followed while working.
  • Operates specialized salvage equipment –e.g. chain pullers, heave compensator
  • Carries out core salvage competencies without direct supervision.
  • Conducts work in a safe and efficient manner consistent with Resolve policies.
  • May lead JSA task evaluations and make suggestions to improve operational safety.
  • Familiarity with routine and emergency procedures
  • Identifies and reports any equipment faults, other potential hazards, near misses or accidents
  • Adheres to the company HSEQ policies and relevant regulatory requirements
  • Maintains validity of professional certifications, licenses, and credentials required for the position.
  • Deploys Oil Spill Response equipment
  • Well versed with barge mooring operations and blasting de-ballasting of barges.
  • Performs all other tasks or duties as assigned within his or her own personal limitations.

  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience in similar marine operations.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a managerial role in the maritime industry
  • Completed education at Higher Vocational level, preferably in naval architecture or Higher Nautical College
  • One of the following must be provided by the candidate:
  • Government Issued ID
  • Driver’s License
  • Passport (if global deployment is required for this position, a current passport is required)
  • Advanced level of rigging knowledge
  • Familiarity and experience with Heavy lift operations and wreck removals. Has an excellent knowledge of all aspects of diving and salvage operations and can run the deck operations with ease
  • Knowledge of various types of ropes and knots and ability to splice a rope
  • Expert knowledge of the various packages (e.g. blow down package, rigging) used in salvage industry
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to work in a high paced, dynamic, and challenging environment
  • Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Must possess working knowledge of industry requirements for equipment
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • TWIC or ability to obtain

Preferred Credentials/ Certifications/ Skills:

    • Driver's License (highly preferred)
    • Passport (highly preferred; if global deployment is required for this position, a current passport is required)
    • First Aid, CPR, AED
    • OSHA 10 Hour
    • HAZWOPER 40 Hour with 8 hour annual refresher
    • BOSIET with HUET
    • STCW with MMC
    • Rigging Certification
    • Basic/Adv Firefighting Certification
    • Vessel Master, Captain License
    • Rope Access Certification, (ie: IRATA L1)
    • Topside welding, fabrication
    • Equipment Operator includes Forklift.
    • Mechanical background in diesel, hydraulics, pumps, etc.

Travel Requirement:

Up to 50% travel is required. If additional, travel is required beyond the specified amount, based on the operational demand, you will be notified accordingly so arrangements can be made.
