Learning Advisor is primarily responsible for enhancing students’ academic outcomes through the development of relevant academic skills and literacies. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Job Description
- Take responsibility for designing, delivering, and recommending relevant services and resources that empower students to develop the skills required to be successful in their course of study.
- Provide a range of workshops and consultations which integrate academic skills relating to program and course specific requirements, as well as the promotion of relevant resources designed to further support learning needs.
- Contribute to the creation, dissemination, and maintenance of Academic Learning Support resources, and demonstrate an up-to-date understanding of additional and relevant resources available to students.
- Contribute to support activities that assist students’ success in new ways of learning, including online and blended environments.
- Collaborate with relevant staff to promote embedded and/or aligned learning support services and resources.
- Create opportunities to promote Academic Learning Support services via relevant channels.
- Work effectively both autonomously, and as a team member, to plan work outcomes, and prioritise tasks to effectively support students and optimise the alignment of support to assist academics.
Selection Criteria
- A degree qualification with at least four years subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training including teaching experience and expertise in learning support at the university level.
- Previously demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills with proven proficiency in the delivery of academic and/or mathematics skills programs that support course content and provide opportunities for students to improve their academic ability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate appropriate learning resources for delivery through a range of media and teaching formats. A sound knowledge of the tertiary environment and factors driving current directions in teaching and learning including, but not limited to, the use of technology.
- Demonstrated sound personal knowledge and experience in the use of common teaching and learning technologies such as learning management systems, lecture capture and web-based activities.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, including demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently, and demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative, analyse and solve problems, manage projects, and prioritise tasks according to the demands of high-pressure peak periods.
- Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application in a university context.
