Purpose and Scope:

The position is responsible for governing Global Reward programs and policies. Manages any changes or updates to Global Reward programs and policies, including working with Works Councils, and Labor Union to ensure alignment and approval of changes or updates. Ensures Global Reward programs and policies are externally competitive to enable Astellas talent and business in achieving established objectives.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Manages global compensation programs to promote a positive, high-performing, innovative and growth-oriented environment that consistently delivers results.
  • Partners with the Reward Strategy Lead in managing and updating scenarios, policies and thresholds related to Reward Governance Framework and ensures alignment with Astellas Global Reward philosophy.
  • Partners with the Reward Strategy Lead in the design, implementation, and maintenance of competitive compensation programs, including base pay, short-term incentives, and long-term incentives including the Executive Share Plan.
  • Manages pay positioning and establishes externally competitive and internally equitable compensation for employees globally.
  • Manages external benchmarking of reward programs against relevant companies and industries globally.
  • Ensures legal compliance of all rewards programs with country, region, local Labor Law requirements, federal rules, and regulations.
  • Oversees the annual reward cycle activities globally to ensure accuracy in awards and payments, in accordance to plan rules and timelines.
  • Drives governance, control, and implementation of reward programs globally, includes supporting consultation with works council, leading consultation where applicable.
  • Advocates, communicates, and guides HR and the business on Reward strategy and processes.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition team to develop compelling total rewards offers that attract and retain top talent globally.
  • Ensures effective collaboration with other People Enablement teams, as well as the People Services/ HR Operations and HRBP groups.
  • May serve as the lead for global coordination of one or more Reward areas.
  • Supports HRBPs and PPs on compensation-related matters with creative solutions, exceeding Reward Governance Framework guidelines.
  • Supports HRBPs and PPs on market pricing requests for their positions and recommend appropriate compensation and grade based on market benchmarks and internal comparators.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 to 8 years of experience performing complex Rewards functions with organizations going through significant transformational changes.
  • High proficiency in Excel, with strong numerical and analytical abilities to dissect data and present it in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience of working with HRIS and Compensation management systems e.g. Success Factors, Better Comp etc.
  • Previous exposure / experience of working with Works Councils/Labor Unions in a Reward expert capacity, supporting the HRBPs and the business.
  • Fluency in Japanese, English, as well as other foreign languages.
  • Experience of working with senior partners across a range of compensation related topics, especially executive and sales compensation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make evidence-based decisions: judgement to know when to seek guidance or escalate.
  • Methodical with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Tenacious to follow up and resolve outstanding matters and explore options.
  • Good written and verbal communications including ability to prepare updates, summaries, emails to employees and managements.
