The role involves managing global insurance policies, including P&I, H&M, corporate, business, and project insurance, to protect the insurable interests of the organization and its group companies.
Responsibilities
Insurance Operations
- Collaborate with General Counsel to report on cover arrangements, premiums, and recoveries.
- Coordinate with brokers on documentation and resolve coverage issues as needed.
- Follow up on hull claims with brokers in alignment with the fleet operations team.
- Manage the timely renewal of all global corporate and business insurance policies, including professional indemnity, workers compensation, marine cargo, directors and officers, travel, business interruption, cyber security, and property risk.
- Prepare reports and claims records for insurance renewals.
- Instruct brokers to arrange and place appropriate insurance programs.
- Resolve insurance-related queries from internal departments and third parties.
- Explore additional insurance covers, such as war risk, piracy, K&R, and Loss of Hire insurance.
- Maintain accurate records of all insurance policies, premiums, and claims in the system.
Contract Insurance Reviews
- Review and identify issues in policy wordings.
- Evaluate contracts to ensure their terms are aligned with existing insurance coverage. Propose amendments or arrange additional insurance if needed to mitigate contractual liabilities.
Claims Handling
- Ensure timely filing and notification of claims to brokers and underwriters.
- Work closely with brokers, loss adjusters, and insurers to maximize claims recovery and resolve cases efficiently.
Business Partnering and Training
- Train key stakeholders, such as superintendents and commercial managers, to ensure claims are submitted promptly.
Data Analysis and Loss Prevention
- Analyze loss trends and recommend corrective actions for prevention and mitigation.
- Prepare monthly reports on claims trends and incident frequencies for the General Counsel.
- Maintain and compile claims statistics and loss records for regular reporting.
Specialized Support
- Liaise with Average Adjustors in the event of General Average declarations.
- Provide assistance on fleet-related claims and coordinate with appointed Average Adjustors for Particular Average claims.
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering / Business / Insurance from a recognized university.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in the insurance industry.
- Familiarity with insurance policies common in the shipping industry, like professional indemnity, Hull and Machinery, all risk, marine cargo, comprehensive general liability, products liability, public liability, directors and officer insurance and employers liability.
- Well versed with insurance terms and conditions, common endorsements/exclusions, typical costs of different insurance policies.
- Good interpersonal and strong leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to inspire confidence at all levels within the business.
