Our client is a well-backed conglomerate with a strong commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. As part of its strategic expansion, the company is seeking a General Counsel to provide legal and strategic leadership in support of its growing renewable energy business.

This is a highly visible and business-critical position, reporting and working closely with senior stakeholders. The General Counsel will be responsible for all legal, regulatory, and transactional matters across the company's renewable energy operations, supporting project development, M&A, joint ventures, project financing, and commercial contracting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead legal advisor on all renewable energy transactions, including M&A, project finance, joint ventures, and development agreements.
  • Advise on complex project structures, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), EPC contracts, supply agreements, land acquisitions, and regulatory matters.
  • Oversee corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage legal risks associated with the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects.
  • Partner with business leaders to support deal structuring, negotiations, and risk assessment.
  • Lead and manage external counsel relationships across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee a legal team, providing strategic leadership in scaling the legal function to support business expansion.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 15 PQE with strong transactional experience in the renewable energy, power, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong track record in M&A, project finance, joint ventures, and commercial contracts related to renewable energy projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy regulations, permitting, and environmental laws.
  • Proven ability to lead negotiations on high-value transactions and manage complex cross-border legal matters.
  • Experience working in-house for a renewable energy developer, power company, or infrastructure investor preferred.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage senior executives, investors, regulators, and external partners.
