The role
We are seeking a highly qualified Legal Counsel to oversee the legal aspects of our fast-growing global mobility business. This role will support teams across Splyt as we expand our industry footprint, from negotiating business partner contracts to advising management on legal matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring Splyt and Kakao Mobility adhere to legal guidelines, maintain compliance, and mitigate potential risks.
What you’ll be doing
Legal Advisory & Compliance
- Provide legal counsel to Splyt’s business development and product teams, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Advise executives on a range of legal topics, including partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance, governance, labor law.
- Research and assess risk factors related to business decisions and operations.
- Implement effective risk management strategies and provide proactive legal guidance.
- Establish and monitor internal governance policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Ensure compliance with global competition and antitrust laws, providing guidance on regulatory frameworks affecting commercial relationships.
- Monitor evolving data privacy and cybersecurity regulations, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other relevant laws.
Contract Management & Negotiations
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Identify and address legal risks related to commercial transactions, licensing, litigation, data privacy, API and data sharing, user experience, and consumer protection.
- Manage legal interactions with business partners, regulators, external counsel, and public authorities.
- Support corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, by providing due diligence, contract structuring, and negotiation support.
- Oversee legal aspects of vendor and supplier agreements, ensuring cost efficiency and compliance.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience structuring complex commercial deals.
Dispute Resolution & Litigation
- Manage legal disputes related to commercial agreements and work with external counsel when necessary.
- Develop legal strategies for both defensive and proactive scenarios.
Who we are looking for
Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a law firm and/or corporate environment.
- Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating technology-related and complex commercial agreements.
- Legal qualification in the UK or a common law jurisdiction.
- Strong understanding of administrative law and regulatory procedures.
- Experience handling multi-regional legal matters.
Skills & Competencies
- Confident, collaborative, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to operate in a high-growth startup under the corporate umbrella of Kakao Mobility, Korea’s leading mobility platform company.
- Strong communication skills with experience engaging external stakeholders, including law firms and business partners.
- Enthusiastic about working in a startup environment.
- High level of professional ethics and integrity.
- Business-oriented mindset, aligning legal strategies with commercial objectives.
- Ability to navigate international legal frameworks for commercial transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
Preferred Qualifications
- MA or BSc in Business Administration is a plus.
- Experience in an engineering-driven technology company.
- Experience with investment funding agreements.
- Interest in emerging technologies, particularly in mobility, automotive, and transportation sectors.
- Fluency in business Korean is a plus.
