Main Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Cape Charterer / Trader to join our team, supporting the internal commodity trading desks and trading a portfolio of vessels and third-party cargoes. The successful candidate will be responsible for trading a third-party book, managing the buying and selling of freight, and assisting in the strategic growth and optimisation of our freight portfolio. This role requires an in-depth understanding of shipping markets, position management, and freight financial instruments.• Chartering & Trading: Execute, manage, and optimise the chartering of cape-sized vessels for internal and third-party freight portfolios, ensuring strategic alignment with the business goals.
• Market Analysis: Analyse market trends, freight rates, and market sentiment to identify trading opportunities and inform decision-making on freight positions.
• Position Management: Develop, track, and manage freight positions and exposure, ensuring that positions are optimised.
• Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with the internal commodity trading desk to provide support, insights, and recommendations on freight movements, market conditions, and price fluctuations.
• Risk Management: Ensure that all freight trades adhere to risk management protocols, including assessing counterparty risks and managing the associated financial instruments (e.g., swaps, options, etc.).
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with ship owners, brokers, and other market participants to source and negotiate optimal deals.
• Reporting: Provide regular updates on freight trading activity, including performance reporting, exposure, and market outlooks to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
• Compliance: Adhere to all internal and external compliance standards and regulatory frameworks concerning shipping and freight trading activities.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant shipping and freight trading experience, preferably in Cape-size chartering/trading.
Expertise: In-depth knowledge of position management and various freight financial instruments, including swaps, futures, and options.
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of global shipping markets, including freight rate trends, and the factors that influence shipping and commodity markets.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse and interpret market data and trends to make informed trading decisions.
Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
Education: A degree in Business, Economics, Maritime Studies, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Skills: Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting directly to the Head of Dry Freight Trading.
