We stand out as the only German school abroad nominated for this award.Swimming Instructor & Assistant Swim CoachCommencing: 1st August 2025The Swimming Instructor (SI) will support the main teacher during swimming lessons. They will help our Primary School students develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water. You will lead sub-groups of the class. As an Assistant Swimming Coach (ASC) they will lead learn-to-swim, developmental and competitive swim squads during CCA and morning sessions.Key AccountabilitiesMain Duties· To plan and deliver lessons, ensuring adherence to the values and vision of GESS.· Ensure all equipment and facilities are well maintained and correctly used at all times.· Ensure safety standards are followed in sessions.· To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming.· Work alongside the Head of Swimming and other Swimming Teachers/Coaches.· Engagement in leading swimming specific CCA's and squads as directed by the Head of Swimming.· Duties may be changed in agreement with the Head of Physical and Outdoor Education.Duties as SI· Identify participants' abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential.· Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of the swimmer, following the guidance of the main teacher.· Provide effective explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques.· Identify and correct faults in swimming techniques, and provide ways to improve performance.· Regularly assess each participant's ability and progress, and share these with the main teacher when prompted.Duties as ASC· Plan and lead CCA/Squad sessions following the direction of the swimming program set out by the Head of Swimming.· Attend all swim competitions and gala's.· Act as a secondary contact point for student and parent questions on the swimming program.· Following appropriate directions, lead and direct swimming groups.Administrative Duties· As a swimming assistant you will not be asked to conduct student progress reports, but will be asked to give feedback on swimmers abilities.· You may be asked to help with Team Manager and Meet Manager (no prior knowledge is needed, but advantageous).· You will not be asked to engage in break duties.· You will not be asked to engage directly with parents via email.General· Undertake additional responsibilities as determined by school management.Knowledge and Experience· Recognised swimming certifications (ASCA Level 2 or equivalent preferred)· Comfortable leading groups; Primary learn to swim, Secondary learn to swim, Junior Swim Squad· Demonstration of knowledge on how to differentiate a session and tasks· Demonstration of knowledge in proficient/competitive swimming techniques· Demonstration of willingness to learn from the Head of SwimmingTechnical and Soft Skills· Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming· Effective communicator· The ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers· The ability to calm and encourage young students· An understanding of (or a willingness to learn) how to differentiate for multiple levels in a coaching session· The applicant would be expected to take the initiative with non specified tasks (Examples):· Ensuring all equipment is safely stored· Communicating with lifeguards on small tasks· Communicating with facilities/head of Swimming on any needed maintenanceFair Recruitment and Safeguarding: We are committed to fair recruitment practices and safeguarding the welfare of all students.
