What the role is:This is a 2-year contract position as a Lecturer, Mechatronics & Robotics in the School of Engineering.What you will be working on:As a Lecturer in Mechatronics & Robotics, you will play a key role in shaping the future of robotics education. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in areas such as Robot Operating System (ROS), autonomous systems, and advanced robotics applications.In addition to these responsibilities, you will develop and assess student assignments, support student learning through mentoring, and manage course-related administrative tasks. The role requires a strong background in Mechatronics, Robotics, or Automation, with proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or ROS languages. A passion for education, strong communication skills, and a commitment to staying current with industry trends are essential.Your role will involve developing curriculum, guiding student projects, and staying abreast of industry trends to ensure that your teaching is relevant and impactful. Additionally, you will engage in industry collaborations and consultancy projects to maintain your professional expertise and contribute to the advancement of the field.Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:Prepare and update teaching materials, as well as conducting lectures, tutorials, and workshops in modules focused on Robot Operating System (ROS), Autonomous Platform Systems, Autonomous System Deployment, and Advanced Robotic Systems & Applications. You will teach students to master ROS architecture, node communication, and apply these skills in mobile robotic systems.Provide hands-on instructions in autonomous robot development, covering key areas like mechanical, electrical, and software systems, as well as autonomous vehicle operations and safety.Teach the deployment of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), including key tasks like sensor calibration, map creation, and route planning.Guide students in robotic system integration for automated processes, focusing on Industrial Robot Arms, Cobots, and key concepts like motion control and path planning through both simulations and practical sessions.Develop, set, and mark assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests related to the assigned module(s) and maintain records of student attendance and grades. Additionally, you will support student learning and development through consultations and mentoring.Undertake administrative tasks related to course management.Lead and train students in local and overseas competitions.Lead overseas trips for study programs, overseas immersion programs, and youth expedition programs.Involve in technology projects as a final year project supervisor, or as a member or principal investigator.Spearhead and identify new opportunities for collaboration with industry partners.Work on industry or consultancy projects, including those involving the deployment of robots, to stay relevant in your profession.Support student development through mentoring, guidance, and fostering a positive learning environment.What we are looking for:Relevant qualification in Mechatronics/ Computer/ Electronics/ Electrical Engineering, with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience in robotics, ROS programming, autonomous systems, and industrial robot applications.Experience in robotic system integration, sensor technologies, and autonomous vehicle deployment is highly desirable.Passionate about education and possess a strong interest in nurturing, teaching, mentoring, and interacting with students.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Self-driven, independent, and possess readiness to work as a team.Ability to develop curriculum content and deliver hands-on laboratory sessions effectively.About Ngee Ann Polytechnic:At Ngee Ann Polytechnic, our nine academic schools offer over 40 full-time diplomas to a growing student population of more than 15,000.
