The job-holder supports surgeons/proceduralists, anesthetists, registered nurses and other members of the operating/endoscopy room team. The primary and secondary responsibilities and duties as stated below. They work under the supervision of registered nurses to provide safe patient and cost effective care activities, according to establish hospital policies, procedures and standards of nursing care and practices.Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)
  • Prepare patients and set up the room and equipment, supplies according to the procedure requirement
  • Maintain safe environment through proper use of equipment and adherence to infection control practices
  • Check consent for correct patient, correct type of procedure and site
  • Fetch pre-operative patient to operating/ procedure room
  • Assist in safe transfer and positioning of patient
  • Assist in documentation of patient care record
  • Establish and maintain sterile field set up
  • Participate in surgical timeout procedure
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeons/ proceduralists by passing instrument and supplies to surgeon/ proceduralists
  • Assist in collection, labeling and handling of specimens
  • Maintain and protect integrity of sterile instruments and scope for patient use
  • Assist to apply dressing and secure drain
  • Perform cleaning of surgical instrument and disinfect trolley after surgery
  • Assist in safe transfer of patient to recovery area and perform patient handover
  • Clean and re-stock operating room
Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%)
  • Attend in-service education program regularly to continually to keep abreast of knowledge and skills
  • Participate in continuing development activities to maintain competency in areas of practice
  • Contributes to the review & development of clinical standards & guidelines
  • Precepts, mentors and orientates students/newly joined technician
  • Assume additional responsibilities assigned by the RN or Nurse Managers/Clinicians
