Vice President, Innovation (Based in Malaysia)
The Vice President, Innovation will lead the development of new materials, technologies, or processes from ideation through commercialization for personal care products. This position combines scientific research with market insights and business and strategic leadership to drive product innovation in personal care product categories to meet customer needs. The role will lead the R&D function to develop new products or to improve and cost-optimize existing formulations as a foundation for business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy: Lead and oversee innovation efforts on personal care product categories by developing short to long term strategies to advance product research roadmap and product portfolio, identifying risk as well as opportunities to improve consumer experience, enhance margins, and support the company’s strategic objectives.
- Research and Development: Lead and manage the R&D function by putting in place “best in class” research & development policies, processes, systems, structures that will ensure that our product range stays ahead of competition to meet consumer needs.
- Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with management, category heads, marketing insights, sales heads to ensure alignment in “go to market” strategies.
- External Collaboration: Collaborate with academic institutions, research labs, or industry partners to advance research and technology transfer or exchange.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all products and innovations meet local regulatory requirements for safety and efficacy.
- Product Development: Oversee the process of translating innovative concepts into commercializable products.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of scientists, engineers, and other R&D professionals. Provide guidance in their professional development and research projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Industry Experience: At least 15 years of successful track record in international companies in developing and commercializing personal care and related categories.
- Education: A good technical degree or equivalent with a preference for a PHD in bio-chemistry, or related fields is typically required. A MBA is advantageous.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience managing teams and working cross-functionally.
- Innovative Mindset: Strong ability to think creatively to solve complex engineering, and product development challenges.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local regulations and clinical trial processes.
