What the role is:The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in greater harmony within our City in Nature.What you will be working on:As part of the Centre for Animal Rehabilitation under the Professional and Scientific Services Division, you will be involved in supporting the operational and outreach duties related to behaviour rehabilitation and animal welfare, and advancing the standards of the dog training industry.Your job scope as a rehabilitation manager includes:
  • Develop and assess behaviour modification plans for dogs undergoing rehabilitation with the aim of adoption into homes
  • Oversee and assist the team in carrying out behaviour modification training for the centre's dogs
  • Review existing programmes to advance industry standards
  • Review and enhance current behaviour modification training materials for staff
  • Collaborate with international and local behaviour experts to develop and organise training courses, talks and workshops for staff, volunteers, industry and the public
  • Organise engagement sessions to connect with and consult industry stakeholders
  • Plan and execute school learning journeys to the Centre, and host student projects at the Centre to raise awareness on animal behaviour and training
  • Organise and carry out publicity for animal rehoming activities such as meet and greets, interviews, screening of potential owners and post-adoption support
  • Assist with the different activities and programmes related to the Centre
What we are looking for:
  • Areas of study in animal behaviour, animal welfare, psychology, biology, or related fields
  • Relevant working experience in animal training, behaviour rehabilitation, animal care, handling and husbandry is preferred
  • Scientific understanding of canine and feline behaviour, principles of learning and experience in writing animal training plans is preferred
  • Strong management and coordination skills, independent, self-motivated, meticulous and enthusiastic
  • Able to work effectively with others in a team environment
  • Good written/ oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Able to and enjoy work closely with animals daily, especially dogs
  • Required to work weekends on a rostered basis
