A PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act) Trainer is responsible for educating individuals and organizations on compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and best practices in data protection. Their responsibilities include:

1. Course Development & Delivery

  • Conduct engaging and interactive training sessions, workshops, or seminars.
  • Customize training content based on industry-specific data protection needs.
  • Ensure that course materials are aligned with the latest PDPA regulations and guidelines.

2. Compliance & Regulatory Guidance

  • Educate participants on PDPA principles, including data collection, processing, storage, and disposal.
  • Explain the rights of individuals under PDPA and the obligations of organizations.
  • Provide guidance on Data Protection Officer (DPO) roles and responsibilities.
  • Teach best practices for handling personal data in compliance with PDPA.

3. Case Studies & Practical Application

  • Use real-world case studies to illustrate PDPA violations and enforcement actions.
  • Guide participants on how to conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
  • Train employees on handling data breaches, incident reporting, and response protocols.

4. Assessment & Certification

  • Administer quizzes, tests, or assessments to evaluate participants’ understanding of PDPA.
  • Issue certificates for PDPA training completion if applicable.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for improving an organization's data protection practices.

5. Staying Updated with PDPA Developments

  • Keep track of changes and amendments in PDPA regulations.
  • Update training content to reflect the latest legal and technological developments.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies like Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) to ensure alignment with compliance standards.

Following supporting documents are needed:

  • ACTA/ACLP certificate;
  • Practitioner Certificate in PDP (Singapore) 2020;
  • Fundamentals of the Personal Data Protection Act 2020;
  • PDPA-IAPP, IAPP-CIPM and/or IAPP-CIPT certificate;
  • Resume/CV, with at least 2 years of experience in data protection. Please include information on the trainer(s)'s relevant experience, e.g., familiarity with DPO functions, appointment as a DPO (including name of organisation) and duration of appointment (mm/yyyy - mm/yyyy), achievements in areas of data protection and implementation, legal advisory or consultancy in data protection, and prior experience in conducting WSQ courses as a trainer;
  • Examples of policies/processes the trainer has implemented as DPO;
  • Two reference letters from past organisations the trainer has worked with in the area of data protection.
