We are looking for a motivated individual to fill the position of a research scientist in the high-performance actuation section of the group. You will be part of the team charged with the development of next generation high performance actuation systems required in robotics and automation systems. In this role, you are expected to perform the modelling, simulation and control of high-performance motion systems. The ability to model and analyse the system dynamics under the various operational scenario would also be a necessary part of the development process. In addition, hands-on experience with the implementation of digital control methods (with hardware in the loop) is required to achieve the real-time control of the actuator under development. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that enhance motion system performance, reliability and efficiency.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Design and develop motion control algorithms for electric motors, actuators, and precision motion systems.
Use tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, dSPACE, Speedgoat or equivalent to simulate and control the motion systems.
Perform system-level simulations to optimize performance and stability.
Develop test procedures for motion control systems to ensure compliance with performance requirements.
Select and implement motion control components, including sensors, controllers, and drive electronics.
Work closely with the hardware team to integrate control systems with mechanical and electrical sub-systems.
Implement advanced control strategies, such as PID auto-tuning, model predictive control (MPC) and state-of-the-art learning-based control methods including but not limited to reinforcement learning, Bayesian optimization etc.
Optimize motion trajectories for precision tracking, high speed and energy efficient actuation.
Generate technical documentation, including schematics, pseudo-codes, etc. for internal communications within the team.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, software, and electrical engineers to enable precise control of automation and robotic systems.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Control or Mechatronics Engineering
2-3 years of work experience or similar is preferred
We value the following skills and experience:
Work experience in the semiconductor industry will be a plus
Experience with the semiconductor equipment development e.g. automated wafer handling machine
Strong knowledge of control theory and digital control techniques
Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or MATLAB.
Experience with following:
motor control techniques e.g. FOC, MPC
motion control techniques such as feedforward, cascade control and observer design.
embedded system design or FPGA development.
Knowledge of machine learning applications in motion control, such as reinforcement learning and others.
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, EtherCAT, Modbus).
Familiarity with standards and certifications for industrial or safety-critical systems.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Type of Employment : Full-Time
Minimum Experience : 1 Year
Work Location : Fusionopolis
