Job Title: Senior Release Engineer

We are accountable for the Group’s key analytics capabilities including the GDW (Group Data Warehouse), Ab-intio, , Pega Decisioning, SAS, Tableau, Oracle BI and Data Stage. We are focused on enhancing these to create world-leading capabilities for analytics, information management and Decisioning

Impact & contribution:

As a Engineer, you will be an integral part of the Release Management Team (RMT), working within a tribe focussed squad of release engineers deploying and testing releases in preparation for production deployment via the change management process.

We are accountable for the Group’s key analytics capabilities including the GDW (Group Data Warehouse), Ab-intio, , SAS, Tableau, Oracle BI and Data Stage. We are focused on enhancing these to create world-leading capabilities for analytics, information management and Decisioning

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Only accepting releases from engineering teams that are ready based on pre defined entry criteria
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the contents of the release
  • QA testing of the code that is not covered by automated QA
  • Deploying packages in SIT and preprod environments
  • Following testing plan accurately to ensure expected outcomes and then documenting results for test acceptance signoff ensuring Minimum Testing Standards are followed
  • Change management process making ready for production deployment using the available tools and management and gaining change approvals
  • Understand our customers' core business objectives and work with them to address them.
  • Have agile and self –service to be the heart of your strategy to ensure over ~60 teams of ~600 developers are always enabled to be productive to focus on solving business problems while your team makes sure all non-prod env are always up and running.
  • Use your analytical mindset to drive decisions based on data
  • Identify tooling gaps which would help our engineers be more productive
  • Support the design and construction of automation tools

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of a release orchestration tool, preferably XL Release

  • 10+ years’ experience, preferably Teradata including expertise in writing complex queries.

  • Highly conversant on Unix/Linux operating systems.

  • Experience and knowledge on Github, Octopus, Team city, Oracle, Datastage and scheduling tool like Autosys or any other scheduling tool.

  • Should have used Confluence and JIRA

  • Experience of creating/reviewing well documented change records using change control tools such as MyService or ServiceNow

  • Support release team in the automation from deployment and Process automation point of view.

  • Best practices for software delivery

  • Combination of analytical mindset and business impact

  • Strong communication, influencing and facilitating skillsets, and able to discuss at the right level for whomever you communicate with

  • Knowledge and expertise of continuous delivery and continuous integration at enterprise scale

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
