Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with expertise in synthetic biology, engineering of biological systems, to join our group at National University of Singapore for the engineering of microbes for biomanufacturing (cell factories development), a field which is rapidly developing and has great potential in providing environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions to address our ongoing challenges. The researcher will be contributing to an industrial project led by A*Star SIFBI. He/she will have opportunity to work with a diverse group of scientists from NUS, A*Star and the company.

Our group @ NUS (https://engbio.syncti.org) specializes in Synthetic Biology in which we engineer microbes with useful capabilities for medical and industrial applications and we are part of SynCTI at NUS (https://syncti.org).

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will primarily work on engineering microbes for the production of high value specialty chemical using sustainable feedstocks. This includes pathway and strain engineering. The candidate is expected to:

  • Performing biomolecular and biology experiments, such as culturing cells, PCR, Gel electrophoresis, transformation, plasmid extraction, etc.
  • Present scientific and technical data in a clear and cohesive manner.
  • Ensure scientific integrity and documentation of experimental data to meet standards suitable for intellectual property, and publication.
  • Work closely with colleagues/collaborators who are engineering the microbes.

Join us in advancing the frontier of neurotechnology!

Qualifications

  • Possess a PhD in Neural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Flexible Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or related fields.
  • Research Interests: Demonstrate a strong interest in neural engineering, flexible electronics, and brain-machine interfaces. Exhibit scientific curiosity and motivation to conduct scientifically rigorous experimental work.
  • Technical Experience:
  • o Prior experience in single-unit recording is essential.
  • o Experience with cell culture, particularly in culturing neuron cells, is highly advantageous.
  • o Previous experience in microfabrication for neural probes is highly advantageous.
  • o Experience in fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) for neurochemical recording is highly advantageous.
  • Research Excellence: Exhibit excellence in conducting independent research with strong critical thinking and experimental design skills. Show enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary team and leading a multidisciplinary project.
  • Technical Knowledge: Demonstrate a robust technical understanding of bioelectronics, neural engineering, and flexible electronics.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Open to fixed term contract

Please Include The Following In Your Application
