Additional information can be found at: chubb.com.Purpose:Chubb is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Deputy Head of Underwriting for Motor Insurance to spearhead the growth and optimization of our auto insurance offerings in Thailand and Malaysia. This role will be pivotal in developing innovative pricing models, actuarial reserving strategies, and dynamic pricing approaches to enhance our competitive positioning in the market.Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Collaborate with the Head of Underwriting to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for motor insurance globally with a special focus in Thailand and Malaysia, aligning with Chubb's overall business goals.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance underwriting practices, improve risk assessment methodologies, and ensure adherence to local regulatory requirements.
  • Pricing Model Development:
  • Design and implement sophisticated pricing models that reflect market dynamics, customer behavior, and competitive analysis.
  • Work closely with the actuarial team to ensure accurate actuarial reserving practices, balancing profitability and market competitiveness.
  • Dynamic Pricing Strategies:
  • Drive the adoption of dynamic pricing models that utilize data analytics and real-time market insights to optimize pricing and improve customer acquisition and retention.
  • Assess the performance of dynamic pricing initiatives and continuously refine approaches based on data-driven insights.
  • Market Insights and Analysis:
  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in the auto insurance sector globally but specially in Thailand and Malaysia.
  • Utilize insights from market analysis to inform underwriting guidelines and product development, ensuring offerings meet the specific needs of the local market.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with teams across the organization, including sales, marketing, and product development, to create and promote innovative motor insurance products tailored to target markets.
  • Foster strong relationships with brokers, agents, and industry stakeholders to enhance Chubb's presence and reputation in the region.
  • Team Development and Mentorship:
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for the underwriting team, fostering a high-performing culture of excellence and responsiveness.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging team members to explore and implement new ideas and technologies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, or a related field; a Master's degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., ACAS, FCAS) is preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in insurance underwriting, and a minimum of 7 years focusing on motor insurance, with significant exposure to pricing and actuarial functions.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a proven track record in developing effective pricing and actuarial models.
  • Experience with dynamic pricing methodologies and familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with demonstrated problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of regulatory frameworks internationally but specially in Thailand and Malaysia.
  • Familiarity with the evolving landscape of technology in insurance and digital transformation is an advantage.
