Primary Function

Organize and control day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in accordance with order requirements, client standard operating procedures, industry standards, and policy directives. To ensure accurate and timely completion of test results and no unnecessary delay occurs.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

  • Organise and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in their respective sections. This includes allocation of tests to technicians, sample pick-up and manpower planning.
  • Prepare worksheets and ensuring client requirements are met.
  • Verify test results/records of analysis and initiate re-test when necessary. To check and ensure that all data are complete in the datasheet.
  • To sign Analysis Report or Certificate of Quality upon completion of work (NOTE: only approved signatory can sign SAC endorsed report).
  • Coordinate and assign staff to work overtime when necessary.
  • In liaison with the Laboratory Operation Manager, to raise and update standard and in-house test methods and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and training of staff to required levels of expertise and administer performance appraisal methods.
  • Co-ordinate activities to ensure that the Laboratory provides a high standard of service and satisfy
  • Ensure sample storage is properly maintained and disposed.
  • To recognize that the Laboratory Quality System is fully implemented as per the QA Manual.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping is maintained at all times in the laboratory.
  • Perform analysis when required.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by management, including testing and analysis during periods of heavy workload. To be on call 24 hours a day 7days a week for queries from lab staff.

Competency Requirements

  • Possess Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in petroleum or petrochemical laboratory industry.
  • Good knowledge on ISO/IEC17025 requirements.
  • Able to work independently and possess good analytical skills, problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
