Purpose of the post
The Research Assistant/Research Associate (RA) will be involved in an ethnographic and historical study that investigates the urban heat experiences and practices of Singapore households. The RA will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator(s) to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project. The RA’s principal role will be to recruit participants, participate in multi-method physiological-ethnographic fieldwork investigations (physio-ethnography), conduct participant-observation, ethnographic and oral history interviews, data entry and analysis, interview transcription and drafting of publications and reports.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant Will
- Support the conduct of physio-ethnographic research;
- Provide administrative support to the project, such as in the recruitment of participants and data collection;
- Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record-keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
- Maintain regular communication with other members of the research team;
- Perform literature review, data analysis and drafting of reports and publications;
- Work at different study sites, depending on the needs; and
- Work beyond routine work hours due to the nature of research.
The applicant should:
- Have a good Bachelor’s degree, preferably in exercise science/kinesiology, public health, life sciences (e.g. physiology, nutrition, environmental biology) or related disciplines;
- A strong interest and/or experience in conducting field research with human participants;
- Preferably an interest in anthropology, sociology, history or science and technology studies (STS), especially in the areas of medicine, health or the environment;
- A strong interest and/or experience in conducting field research with human participants;
- Be able to work independently and in a team;
- Assisting with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI; and
- Have an investigative nature and be detail-oriented; have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS Office.
