Investment Analyst

Role:

A Singapore-based investment manager is seeking an Investment Analyst to join its team, which manages investor capital primarily in Japanese public equities through an activism/engagement strategy.

You will support the team on the investment strategy by assisting with research on investments, analysing the businesses of portfolio companies, contributing to engagement campaigns, supporting firm marketing efforts, and helping to enhance the overall performance of the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Scope of work includes, but not limited to company visits/ meetings, presentations/ letters to portfolio companies, firm marketing, investor reporting, industry research, financial analysis and valuation
  • This includes intense financial analysis, in-depth industry research, and the analysis/development of outside-in strategic plans to improve the company’s value.
  • You will also support the development and execution of engagement campaigns
  • You will be required to review primary information in Japanese, such as company reports and filings, newspaper articles, and reports.
  • The engagement activities and investor communication aspects of the role involve significant writing, and the ideal candidate should possess excellent writing skills in both Japanese and English.
  • You may be required to travel on short notice and work off-site several times a year.

Requirements:
The candidate is expected to have good understanding of public equity markets and fundamental company valuation. This includes the ability to value a company using a variety of methods, convey the investment thesis to other members of the team and strategies ways to work with company management to improve the value of an investment.

We are looking for a candidate who has gained 5+ years’ work experience, ideally from an investment bank or a consultancy firm. A background gained in a corporate advisory role covering M&A and corporate finance or a consulting role covering business due diligence, strategy planning and operational improvement consulting is desirable.

Japanese language fluency and understanding of Japanese business culture and corporate environment are essential for the role as our clients are mostly Japanese. The candidate must also be proficient in English.

The candidate must be able to read, write and speak fluent Japanese and be able to handle regulatory filings, investment execution related documentations, fund structuring documentations and other corporate finance and capital markets related documentations in both Japanese and English.

The candidate should have good communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team with high level of responsibility and sense of accountability.
