The Managing Director (MD) of an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) Beverages company plays a key leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company while ensuring that the business executes its strategic goals efficiently and effectively. Key Responsibilities:
1) Strategic Oversight:
- Develop and implement business strategies aligned with the company’s vision, mission, and goals.
- Work closely with the executive team to set long-term and short-term objectives for growth, profitability, and market share.
- Regularly assess market trends and adjust strategies to stay competitive in the FMCG beverage sector.
- 2. Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company, ensuring efficient production, distribution, and supply chain management.
- Ensure that operations are streamlined for maximum productivity and cost-effectiveness while maintaining product quality.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Ensure the company has the necessary resources, infrastructure, and capabilities for successful market expansion.
- 3. Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the company’s budget and financial forecasting processes.
- Ensure financial targets are met by monitoring revenue, profitability, and operational costs.
- 4. Sales and Marketing Leadership:
- Lead the sales and marketing teams to achieve growth in both existing markets and new market opportunities.
- Define and execute marketing strategies to enhance brand presence, consumer loyalty, and market penetration.
- Foster relationships with key customers, distributors, and partners to drive product distribution and increase market share.
- Develop strategies to enter new geographical markets, particularly in emerging economies.
- Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities both locally and internationally.
- 5. Innovation & Product Development:
- Collaborate with the R&D team to ensure the creation of new beverage products that are aligned with market demands.
- Ensure that the company maintains a strong portfolio of products that differentiate it from competitors.
- 6. Talent Management:
- Lead and develop a high-performing executive team, including key operational, sales, and marketing leaders.
- Ensure that the company attracts, develops, and retains top talent
- Foster a positive work culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, high performance and to support business growth.
- 7. Risk Management:
- Identify and manage risks to the business, including operational, financial, and market risks.
- Work with the leadership team to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Ensure the company has proper insurance and compliance measures in place to manage risks.
- 8. Stakeholder Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including investors, customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
- Communicate the company’s strategy and performance to the shareholders.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years' experience in operations management, sales and marketing, preferably in FMCG.
- Capacity to manage various projects and work to tight deadlines.
- Excellent negotiation and leadership skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in overseeing multi-functional teams (production, sales, finance, etc.) and managing cross-departmental collaboration.
- Fluency in both spoken and written Chinese and English is required. The candidate must be able to speak Mandarin for communication with stakeholders and teams in China.
