
Website Optimisation Specialist
Job Responsibilities:
1. Performance Optimisation:
- Improve website performance metrics such as Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS).
- Implement optimisations based on PageSpeed Insights reports to improve load speed and user experience.
2. Image Optimisation:
- Convert and serve images in modern formats (e.g., WebP).
- Implement responsive images with appropriate srcset and sizes attributes.
- Compress images to reduce file size without compromising quality.
3. CSS & JavaScript Optimisation:
- Minify CSS and JavaScript using tools such as CSSNano and UglifyJS.
- Implement inline critical CSS and defer loading of non-essential CSS and JavaScript.
- Employ code-splitting techniques for optimal resource loading.
4. Server-Side Optimisation:
- Configure server caching (e.g., Apache, Nginx) and optimise database queries.
- Work with caching technologies like Redis or Memcached to improve response time.
- Implement CDN integration and manage server-side settings for caching and delivery speed.
5. Third-Party Code & Script Management:
- Audit and minimise third-party scripts to reduce payload.
- Implement lazy loading of third-party resources when necessary.
6. Accessibility Improvements:
- Address accessibility issues, including fixing color contrast, providing alt text for images, and using ARIA attributes appropriately.
- Ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
7. Testing & Monitoring:
- Conduct regular performance audits using PageSpeed Insights, Web Vitals Monitoring, and real-user monitoring (RUM).
- Maintain ongoing performance monitoring and recommend adjustments as needed.
8. Collaboration:
- Work closely with developers, designers, and content teams to implement optimisations.
- Provide insights on performance trends and propose strategic solutions for long-term improvements.
Credentials & Requirements:
- Education:
Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Digital Marketing, or related field.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in web optimisation, frontend performance, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks.
- Experience with optimisation tools such as PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, and Web Vitals.
- Familiarity with image compression tools (e.g., TinyPNG, ImageOptim) and JavaScript/CSS minifiers.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of server-side optimisations, caching, and CDN configuration.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools and accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Understanding of browser caching policies and responsive design techniques.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with server technologies (e.g., Apache, Nginx).
- Familiarity with SEO best practices related to website performance and accessibility.
- Hands-on experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress.
