The MTDC was established to develop new manufacturing technology platforms and apply best practices in process engineering, chemistry and analytics to a range of opportunities in Pfizer manufacturing.

The successful candidate will develop or take an active role in new process technologies, process modeling and applying known technologies that can be utilized for the safe, robust and efficient production of high-quality API's in PGS. Using innovative process engineering solutions, coupled with expertise across a range of unit operations, to deliver breakthrough Platform Technologies and help resolve technical issues in the network. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership to work programmes or actively work in a multidisciplinary team of Process Engineers, Analysts, Chemists, Technologists and others, both in the local MTDC but globally with other GTE teams, Manufacturing Sites and with worldwide R&D (WRD).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply chemical engineering principles, modelling tools and experimental skills, using data-rich laboratory equipment and instrumentation, to improve process understanding and assess technical solutions for API processes. Ability to extract the maximum knowledge and understanding from data sets will be essential.
  • Select, develop and apply new and existing process technologies in support of GTE next generation synthetic route development, to facilitate best process design for API manufacturing to meet global project goals.
  • Identify new Platform Technologies, from across Pharma Industry, other industries, academia, open Innovation or through own invention, that could transform manufacturing operations aligning with strategic direction requirements in PGS and WRD.
  • Work to develop identified Platform Technologies taking cognizance of all process engineering best practices and design criteria with relentless focus on delivering robust, scalable, affordable platforms that meets the customer’s future needs.
  • Collaboration with process engineers across Pfizer (SME’s, sites, GTE, PGS and WRD) and externally to academia and institutes will be a requirement. Detailed interaction with vendors will be important to support the hands-on equipment development that will ultimately be used in manufacture.
  • Technical Transfer to Kilo Labs, Pilot Plants and other facilities will be a requirement.
  • Approximately 20% of time will be spent project managing external innovation through the Pharma Innovation Programme Singapore (PIPS), a precompetitive collaboration on innovative manufacturing technologies between GSK, Pfizer, Merck, Syngenta and the academic institutions in Singapore.
  • Additional Principle Research Scientist responsibilities are to
  • ensure that the engineering skills in the MTDC are developed and applied for scientific excellence and maximum impact.
  • Working with the MTDC Team leader and others ensure that the projects selected have been fully scoped and the engineering requirements and deliverables are fully understood.
  • Build the MTDC into a powerhouse for Process Engineering with deep understanding of solid state crystallization, isolation and drying, modelling across the range of unit operations, advanced PAT utilization and application, chemistry in batch, continuous and hybrid mode.
  • Work to ensure that MTDC tool-kit is known and actively used by PGS and other customer groups within and outside Singapore.

Requirements

  • Basic degree in Chemical Engineering with a master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering will be preferred
  • At least 4 years’ experience post master's or PhD in either academic research or laboratory-based industry work or combination of both.

  • Excellent knowledge of chemical engineering principles including reaction kinetics, reactor design, continuous processing, chemical thermodynamics, heat and mass transport, engineering statistics, modeling and simulation, solid state crystallization, isolation & drying are required.
