Position Summary
As a Staff Scientist within Illumina’s Advanced Science team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary RnD team to further advance sequencing technology and make it more accessible to everyone. You will play an important role in the research and development of sequencing workflow and consumables with the world-class performance, accessibility, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require.
You will be responsible for developing cutting edge technologies and related assays by designing and executing experiments, collecting data, performing analysis, drawing conclusions and presenting to key stakeholders.

Position Summary
As a Staff Scientist within Illumina’s Advanced Science team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary RnD team to further advance sequencing technology and make it more accessible to everyone. You will play an important role in the research and development of sequencing workflow and consumables with the world-class performance, accessibility, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require.
You will be responsible for developing cutting edge technologies and related assays by designing and executing experiments, collecting data, performing analysis, drawing conclusions and presenting to key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams to develop novel on-surface assays and consumables used across Illumina NGS platforms.
- Design and perform experiments, communicate results and conclusions to aid in team decision-making.
- Contribute to ongoing research and development projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Keep detailed lab notebooks, prepare reports, updates, and summaries for managers and team. Write technical reports and prepare presentations for cross functional and cross-site technical teams.
- Upkeep of lab equipment, laboratory supplies and good housekeeping.
- Be both a strong individual contributor as well as a collaborative team member within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Lead and guide technical team. Drive project to meet timeline and milestones.
- Conceptualize and initiate project.
- PhD. in relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biochemical engineering.
- BSc or Msc with 10+ years of industrial experience
- Proven track record of innovative, collaborative R&D with productive outcomes
- Proven track record in rational, hypothesis based experimental design, execution, and data analysis.
- Experience of leading technical team and driving project.
- Demonstrated expertise in various molecular biology and analytical techniques eg. quantitative PCR, optical/fluorescence microscopy, electrophoresis, liquid chromatography, activity assays, nucleic acid isolation.
- Understanding of protein biochemistry, engineering and structure
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Be comfortable working in a collaborative team.
- A self-starter, positive, and driven with a “can do” attitude
- Experience with NGS workflows including bioinformatics data processing
- Experience in bioconjugation, surface chemistry, surface modification.
- Experience working with international cross site teams.
