The Dermal Matrix Lab, headed by Professor Rachel Watson, investigates how tissue homeostasis is perturbed in the context of ageing and disease pathophysiology. We focus on the architecture of the dermal extracellular matrix (ECM), with specific expertise in elastic fibre biology, and how alterations to its organisation impacts skin physiology - hence, our work employs biomechanical testing of human volunteers to state-of-the-art molecular, cell and spatial biology, to better understand skin health and disease.

We are looking for a Research Officer to join our laboratory in A*STAR Skin Research Labs (A*SRL), a member of the Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS). The position is available from the 3rd March 2025, for 12-months in the first instance.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform experiments involving histology and other in situ techniques (spatial transcriptomics, in situ hybridization histochemistry, immunofluorescence histochemistry, in situ zymography) and biochemical analyses of ECM (in vitro cell culture, protein biochemistry, molecular biology). Experience in mammalian cell culture is an advantage
  • Provide technical support to fellow researchers in the laboratory
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents and consumables
  • Participate in procurement activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Biomedical Sciences or related fields with laboratory experience
  • Work experience in a laboratory environment is preferred
  • Prior experience in histological techniques, cell culture, molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry
  • Able to take initiative, conduct experiments and solve problems independently
  • Dedicated, motivated and passionate about scientific research and learning
  • Able to communicate well and work efficiently in a team

We offer:

  • A well-funded laboratory supported by A*STAR, the National Research Foundation (NRF) and industry to pursue a combination of exciting projects and your scientific interests
  • A nurturing, supportive and stimulating environment with close mentorship to develop your scientific career
  • Access to state-of-the-art technologies, scientific resources, core facilities and infrastructure housed within A*SRL, A*STAR and SRIS to facilitate your research work
