Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Assistant Professors Alexander Giessing (Year 1) and Lin Zhenhua (Year 2) on a research program focused on functional data analysis and deep learning models. The project, titled “Statistical Inference on Functional Data and Neural Networks”, aims to advance inferential methodology for functional and high-dimensional data via neural networks and develop statistical theory and uncertainty quantification for deep learning models.

The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Producing original theoretical and methodological research for publication in top tier statistics and machine learning journals or computer science conferences.
- Developing and maintaining software packages.
- Presenting research results at international conferences.
- Collaborating with Dr Giessing and Dr Lin, their graduate students, and their external partners on related research problems.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:
- Ph.D. in Statistics.

Skills:
- Strong background in the theory of non-parametric and high-dimensional statistics and functional data analysis.
- Knowledge of empirical process theory and high-dimensional probability.
- Proficient in both oral and written English communication.

Experience:
- Independent research as well as collaboration within a research team.
