KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our enthusiastic and forward-looking Clinical Chemistry team. Applications from experienced Principal Medical Laboratory Scientists will also be considered. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the quality and innovation of Clinical Chemistry services for the unique patient population KKH serves, ensuring the highest standards of care for women and children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of Clinical Chemistry services, including service delivery and innovation, quality assurance, risk management, and operational efficiency, in close collaboration with Consultant staff.
  • Act as Deputy for the Head of Service (Clinical Chemistry), when required.
  • Prioritise patient safety in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality and efficient Clinical Chemistry services that meet clinical and technical requirements, which are consistent with best practices, and in line with relevant accreditation schemes (e.g., CAP, ISO15189).
  • Lead on Clinical Chemistry laboratory staff recruitment and selection processes, including, person specifications, and to chair interview panels when required.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of staff training and development programmes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development amongst Clinical Chemistry laboratory staff, ensuring their competence and awareness of the latest developments in relevant areas.
  • Lead and mentor Clinical Chemistry laboratory staff.
  • Cultivate strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives, including the optimisation of laboratory assays, and supporting staff in troubleshooting assay non-conformances.
  • Contribute to research and development projects, including clinical research, method validation studies, and the implementation of new technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting officer.


Job requirements:
  • BSc, Masters or PhD in Biological / Biomedical Sciences or relevant subject.
  • At least 12 years of relevant work experiences.


Experience and Personal Qualities:

Technical Expertise
  • Knowledge and experience of quality management systems, including compliance with ISO15189 and College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation standards.
  • Proficiency in quality control procedures, laboratory assay optimisation, method verification and validation, and assay troubleshooting.

Leadership and Management
  • Experience in laboratory management, including staff supervision, recruitment, training, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Analytical and Organisational Skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities with good problem-solving skills.
  • High level of attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to respond to sudden, unexpected demands and to analyse complex situations to develop a range of options.

Communication and Collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build strong relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
