The role will also help to deliver projects for Asia and the global markets Pacific Life Re operate in, developing innovative insurance solutions utilising insights derived from predictive analytics.

Job Description
The Innovation Lab
The Innovation Lab is a new team within Pacific Life Re’s Singapore branch. The lab will:
- Act as a ‘centre of excellence’ for data science / analytics research initiatives (e.g. predictive underwriting, data mining, machine learning-enabled analysis) within the Asian business unit, acting as the Strategic Analytics team for the Asia business unit,
- Deliver innovative solutions for the life insurance market, including underwriting rules engine design, portfolio risk management, product pricing and development, and sales processes.
- Act as a global ‘co-hub’ for data science initiatives along with the existing Strategic Analytics team based in London, but with greater focus on Asia/Australia market initiatives,
- Encourage the adoption and upskilling of Singapore-based pricing and research staff through training and exposure to data science projects, and allow PLRe to attract and cultivate new talent within Singapore,
- Help PLRe develop partnerships with clients, academic bodies, and third parties and contribute innovative product offerings and research to the Asia insurance market
- Promote PLRe and contribute to the Asia market through industry presentations, panel discussions, and showcases around the innovative work being conducted,
- Allow better co-ordination between PLRe’s research and analytics resources located in Europe, Toronto, Asia, and Australia given geography / time zones.

Duties
- Support data scientists on analytics projects for Pacific Life Re and UnderwriteMe clients, from both innovative data utilisation and predictive modelling aspects,
- Identify and work on opportunities to improve or automate existing end-to-end processes or procedures in analysing data,
- Actively participate in research-related initiatives, develop innovative tools for both internal/external uses.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current year-two or penultimate-year student of bachelor’s degrees in statistics, computer science, mathematics, actuarial science, or related disciplines
- Strong mathematical background and experience relevant to developing statistical and machine learning models, including the associated processes in data preparations and data visualisations
- Strong knowledge and experience in relevant tools and programming languages (Python/R, SQL, Tableau, etc)
- Sufficient understanding in data engineering and computer science to assist in different aspects of data science projects
- Good communication and presentation skills, particularly in explaining complex issues in clear terms
- Enthusiastic, with a keen drive and focus
