We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Vessel IT Engineer for one of our global Shipping clients. Reporting to the Senior IT Vessel Manager, the role will be responsible for managing, supporting, maintaining and upgrading the on-board IT infrastructure of the vessels, improving existing processes, streamline workflows through automation and ensuring compliance with security standards.The ideal candidates would have at least 5 years of good working experience on Vessel IT and Communication Systems. He/she is a self-starter and is able to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.Responsibilities
  • Provide remote support for vessels, crew and on-board support (when needed).
  • Installation, maintenance, and optimization of existing IT systems, including networks, communication systems (satellite, radio, etc.), servers, network and workstations.
  • Participate in the design, implementation and improvement of our vessels' IT infrastructure.
  • Implementing necessary changes to ensure robust cybersecurity measures to protect the vessels IT systems from cyber threats, ensuring compliance with maritime cybersecurity regulations.
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Work closely with Business Owners and/or IT team to deliver IT solutions base off emerging technologies and cybersecurity.
  • Primary contact for stakeholders and internal teams, effectively managing complex issues, providing timely resolutions, and ensuring seamless communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Liaise with vendors, email providers and other IT personnel for problem resolution or new projects or deployments.
  • Providing training for crew members on the use of IT systems, as well as maintaining detailed documentation for onboard systems and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Provide out-of-business hours/weekend support as part of an on-call rota.
Requirements
  • BSc in Computer Science or equivalent;
  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Applications, networking, cloud services and cybersecurity in the maritime context.
  • Experience in implementing and supporting cyber security solutions is preferred.
  • Knowledge of hardware troubleshooting, data cabling and WiFi infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of ships automation systems will be a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, fast learner with can-do attitude and a genuine interest in all aspects of IT Support.
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and flexibility to work prolonged hours.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to quickly address and resolve issues in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations with limited access to support.
  • Good team player to effectively work with diverse teams.
