- Provide insightful, relevant, succinct and timely credit analysis, execution and monitoring of debt financing opportunities within the Syndications & Financing Risk group, specifically the investments booked under the Private & Traded Credit strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Promote awareness and support implementation of CIB's strategy and objectives globally as well as the
- specific objectives and strategic priorities of the Syndicate & Financing Risk business.
- Take the lead in adequately assessing and appropriately presenting the risk on financing transactions, determining mitigants and quantifying scenarios for stakeholders to process.
- Actively support the growth, proactive risk management, and RoTE optimization of the PTC portfolio.
Business
- Maintaining integrity and objectivity in analysis is critical. This includes iterative discussion with stakeholders, seniors and other colleagues around initial thoughts, draft analysis, key sector and geographic trends, as well as discussion of covenants, risk triggers and the like. It involves proactive idea generation and discussions around potential business opportunities, assisting both PTC, TRM and Risk around proposed transaction structuring and execution, where relevant, and identifying and alerting stakeholders of emerging risk aspects on a continuous basis.
- Insightful: Analysis should provide historical as well as forward-looking, focused opinion on the likely development of both business and financial risk elements in relevant industry / geographic context together with a calibrated articulation of key risks and potential mitigants
- Relevant: Besides a holistic counterparty assessment, an analysis should comment on structural elements relevant to SCB's existing or proposed financing structure, including security arrangements
- Succinct: While always providing sufficient granularity to substantiate its conclusions and observations, an analysis should present opinion in as succinct a manner as is practicable
- Timely: Time is of the essence in many cases, so being quick to turn around a comprehensive analysis is critical.
- Additionally, most Investment Memos and Business Credit Applications will involve the following:
- Facility Structure, Terms and Conditions
- Active partnership with other stakeholders in formulation of proposed Covenants and Risk Triggers
Processes
- Perform bottom-up and fundamentals based credit analysis of financing opportunities presented. Such analysis should be Insightful, Relevant and Succinct (see Strategy). Broadly, this requires the analyst to follow the deal from origination to exit. Specifically, key tasks would be (amongst others):
- conducting research on industry dynamics, barriers to entry and assessing borrower's competitive advantages;
- sponsor's investment thesis and track record;
- analysis of borrower's historical financial and operating track record, credit metrics and sources of liquidity;
- assessment of projections and carry out financial modeling for stress testing based on risks identified;
- conduct benchmarking based on peers for valuation and collateral cover analysis;
- prepare credit approval documents and present findings to SCB internal stakeholders;
- review appropriateness of financing terms and structures including robustness and enforceability of collateral package and covenant levels;
- working with external counsel on documentation of legal financing documents;
- assist in de-risking strategy by preparing materials and participating in discussions required in distribution of positions; and
- provide timely updates on existing positions including portfolio review, covenant testing, conditions subsequent and other conditions.

Risk Management
- In respect of credits where the role-holder is assigned as analyst:
- Proactive monitoring of key entity or industry wide events and/or developments, as well as of covenants
- and risk triggers where applicable;
- Partnering other colleagues in S&FR in pursuing their financing strategies through proactive idea generation, support in preparing materials for discussion with Risk and through ensuring they are always fully briefed on key risk aspects;
- Partnering Risk through clear presentation of credit analysis and proposed credit grading, as well as
- through proactive and considered discussion of key risk aspects;
- Conducting general due diligence in respect of credit analysis; and
- Acting as a broader point of expertise in respect of credit aspects within S&FR
Governance
- Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
- Responsible for delivering 'effective governance'; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor's degree
- 8 years of experience in credit (fundamentals driven and bottom-up based analysis) with ability to identify key risks and mitigants
- Good familiarity with different financing and collateral structures across jurisdictions
- Robust technical skills including financial modelling (3-statement), running sensitivities and valuation
- Project and time management skills to monitor multiple workstreams and take ownership of issues / tasks
- Ability to work in a team and diverse work environment
- Excellent written & oral communication skills
- Experience of working with and presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Flexible and resilient mindset to deal with a dynamic and quick-to-change setting
