Deputy Principal / Senior/ Research Scientist (Climate Change Impacts Branch) (Contract)
[What the role is]
The Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS) is a division of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). At CCRS, our mission is to advance scientific understanding of tropical climate variability and change and its associated weather systems affecting Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. Our vision is to be a world leading centre in tropical climate and weather research focusing on the Southeast Asia region.
Within CCRS's Department of Climate Research (DCR), the Climate Change Impacts (CCI) Branch focuses its research on four key priority areas that have been developed in consultation with Singapore stakeholder agencies: (a) Conducting inhouse research on topics such as i.) urban climate change, ii.) sea level rise, iii.) Heat impacts, and iv.) water supply and flood management using the CCRS high-resolution climate change dataset (V3); (b) Support government agencies through provision of targeted and tailored advice and briefs; (c) engage in collaborations with local and regional research groups on climate change impacts topics; and (d) Support the activities of the CCRS-based Weather and Climate Science Research Program Office (WCSRPO).
The research efforts will support Singapore stakeholders' planning and decision-making processes on climate change adaptation. The climate impact research of DCR's CCI Branch will contribute directly to the goals of the Weather and Climate Science Research Program Office (WCSRPO) by linking climate impact research directly to stakeholder needs. Collaborations with Singapore and regional universities on relevant science projects will further boost climate impact research in Singapore.
We are seeking an experienced scientist and science manager with a strong background in climate and/or climate impact science or a related discipline to lead the CCI Branch (branch head) and experienced scientist with a strong background in urban climate and climate impact science or a related discipline to contribute to the research effort of the CCI Branch (research scientist). While urban climate change is the priority focus for this second position, additional research commitments (especially on sea level and/or water resources) are welcome.
