We are dedicated to cultivating intellectual curiosity and creativity in our students, while making a positive impact on Singapore and the region through our diverse academic programs and cutting-edge research.

Within the school, the Department of Linguistics and Multilingual Studies (LMS) offers a unique opportunity to explore the intricate relationships between language, culture, and society. As Singapore exemplifies a successful multilingual society, LMS is uniquely positioned to lead the study of multilingualism, offering a rich curriculum that spans language structure, bilingual cognition, and the intersection of technology and language.

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Officer to join LanTERN (Language Evolution through Trees, Entropies, Reconstruction, and Networks), an ambitious research proposal that aims to uncover the linguistic and cultural histories of East and Southeast Asia. Focusing on the Sino-Tibetan and Kra-Dai language families, the project integrates traditional linguistic methods with cutting-edge computational approaches, offering an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research. If you're passionate about language, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary research, this role is your chance to make a meaningful impact!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and schedule activities: Manage project schedules, including arranging meetings, fieldwork trips, and workshops, ensuring all activities are organised efficiently.
  • Provide administrative support: Handle day-to-day administrative tasks, such as preparing documents, maintaining records, and processing reimbursements or expense claims.
  • Organise fieldwork logistics: Assist with planning and organising fieldwork, including travel arrangements, accommodation bookings, and securing necessary permissions or resources.
  • Support data management: Help maintain and organise project data, including recordings, transcriptions, and other research materials, ensuring they are securely stored and accessible to the research team.
  • Monitor project milestones: Track progress against key project milestones and deadlines, providing regular updates to the Principal Investigator and team.
  • Assist in reporting: Support the preparation of project reports, summaries, or presentations for internal and external review.

Job Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with event planning, scheduling, and logistics management.
  • Experience handling budgets, reimbursements, and financial documentation is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to liaise with internal and external stakeholders professionally.
  • Proficiency in data processing tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel) and office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating within a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic knowledge of data management (e.g., organising and storing research materials securely) is an advantage.
  • Candidates with a background in linguistics or multilingual research are encouraged to apply, though it is not a strict requirement.
