Research Associate (NIE-Dir Off)
The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 24-month contract at the .
Project Introduction: To provide dedicated assistance in research, academic synthesis, and administrative support. This role is designed to enhance the Director’s capacity by consolidating research insights, preparing policy briefings, and ensuring smooth coordination of information. The Research Associate will work closely with the Director, complementing existing strategic and administrative functions within NIE.
Requirements:
- A University Degree.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in literature reviews and policy analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex academic and policy discussions into clear, structured narratives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and data visualisation tools.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce well-structured presentations and documents.
Preferred Attributes
- Prior experience supporting senior leadership in an academic or public sector setting.
- Familiarity with Singapore’s education landscape and broader trends in higher education.
- A proactive, adaptable approach to supporting the Director’s evolving needs.
This role is intended to enhance the Director’s ability to engage effectively with research, policy discussions, and institutional priorities, while complementing the existing structures within NIE.
Responsibilities:
Research & Briefing Support
- Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans to provide background research on key topics of interest to the Director.
- Synthesize key insights into concise briefing notes and summaries.
- Support the Director’s participation in academic, policy, and institutional discussions by providing relevant data and contextual information.
Academic Synthesis & Intellectual Engagement
- Develop well-researched, structured materials to support the Director’s engagements.
- Assist in drafting conceptual papers, policy briefs, and academic narratives that distil complex ideas into clear, well-reasoned arguments.
- Curate and integrate scholarly perspectives to inform the Director’s contributions to academic and policy discourse.
Special Projects
- Support the Director in conceptualising, coordinating, and managing selected special projects that align with NIE’s priorities.
- Conduct background research, liaise with stakeholders, and provide documentation to facilitate project execution.
- Track progress and prepare periodic reports on project developments.
Administrative & Information Coordination
- Assist in preparing for meetings by compiling relevant documents, tracking follow-up actions, and maintaining an organised repository of materials.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather necessary information.
- Provide logistical and documentation support to ensure the Director’s work is well-facilitated.
