Research Fellow (Biological Physics)
Join Our Team at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.
We are seeking two Research Fellows to contribute to a project focused on the collective motion of bacteria and mechanics of bacterial colonies and biofilms. It involves experiments, theory, and numerical simulations. One Research Fellow will focus on the experiments and the other theory and numerical simulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design experimental systems and perform experimental measurements.
Process experimental data analyze the results.
Implement numerical calculations to simulate collective behaviors of bacteria.
Build theoretical models to describe or explain the experimental or numerical results.
Help organize the research lab.
Help train other members of the lab, such as undergraduate students.
Job Requirements:
PhD (for Research Fellow and above equivalent) degree in biophysics, soft matter physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in experimental techniques such as microscopy, microfluidics, or rheology OR molecular dynamics simulation or agent-based simulation.
Competent in soft skills e.g. information visualization, oral presentation, etc.
Entry level candidates are welcome to apply.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
