The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 16-month contract at the
Project Title: Shaping Citizens for Singapore: A Curricular Study of Citizenship Education in Singapore.
Project Introduction: This study examines the evolution of citizenship education in Singapore from the 1950s to the present, focusing on its historical development and curricular shifts. It explores the purpose, nature, and persistence of key elements to understand the forces shaping Singapore’s approach. Adopting a curricular perspective, the study evaluates the design, objectives, and teaching methods of citizenship education, highlighting changes and continuities over time.
Requirements:
Master's degree in a Social Science or Humanities discipline
Prior knowledge of civics and citizenship education, as well as social studies education.
Proven experience in publishing academic articles and book chapters.
At least three years of professional and research experience in education-related projects.
Responsibilities:
Conduct analysis of primary and secondary documents.
Conduct a small fieldwork that requires interviewing and teaching observation.
Undertake a comprehensive literature review on the topic.
Contribute to the development of the project’s conceptual framework.
Support the Principal Investigator in preparing and submitting a book proposal.
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator on book-related tasks arising from the project.
Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator
