Pathlight School is the first autism-focused school in Singapore to offer the national curriculum together with life readiness skills. It caters to students on the autism spectrum with related conditions, aged 7 to 18 years, who are cognitively able to access national curriculum but require additional support such as smaller class sizes, special accommodations and teaching staff trained in autism.

The team at Pathlight School Secondary School is responsible for holistic development of our students and preparing them for a smooth transition to post-secondary school pathways.

As a Lab Technician, your Impact and Contribution includes:

Core Responsibilities

  • Schedule the availability of, prepare and provide apparatus, equipment and other teaching materials as requested by teachers for experiments and practical demonstrations.
  • Organising support to the Science Department, including assisting in preparing resources and assembling apparatus for classes
  • Collect and clear away equipment and chemicals, and other teaching material once it is
  • finished with, including safely disposing of waste and washing-up apparatus
  • Check for faulty and damaged equipment after each lesson and repair or replace the equipment, if necessary
  • Assist teachers, if needed, to facilitate student learning
  • Preparation of materials for external and internal practical exams

Technological and Resource Management

  • Manage and organise laboratories ensuring that the equipment, chemicals and other materials are clean, adequately stocked, and kept in working condition.
  • Carry out stock check of all chemicals, disposable materials, glassware and other apparatus once per semester
  • Ordering stock in agreement with the Head of Science
  • Attending department meetings

Safety and Risk Assessment

  • Ensuring the department keeps up to date with health & safety requirements
  • Carrying out risk assessments for technician activities
  • Checking fume cupboards and pressure vessels; carrying out electrical and other safety checks, etc.
  • Ensure the safe storage, care and handling of chemicals, safe disposal of residues and wastes

Requirements

  • Min. Diploma or Degree in Science or any related field.
  • Candidates with relevant experience in general education schools (with national examinations) is preferred
  • Passion to help special needs students maximise their talents and potential
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to evolving situations and diverse viewpoints
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team in a fast paced and dynamic work environment
