The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop chiral metamaterials, conduct atomic-scale characterizations of hierarchical self-assemblies, and employ X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy for structure solution.

We are looking for a research fellow to conduct research on manufacturing of colloidal metamaterials that will be applicable in diagnosis of diseases. The role will focus on synthesis and characterization of the developed materials across length scale and will focus on coupling the hybrid interfaces with biological molecules for optical detection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments related to chiral materials or optoelectronic devices.

  • Perform high-quality research and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed journals and academic conferences.

  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • Collaborate with both local and international research groups.

  • Participate in the conduct of research project with research team members to ensure completion of deliverables

  • Maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers

  • Assist or Produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Expertise in the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles, including SiO₂, chiral Au, and others.

  • Proficiency in advanced characterization techniques, such as SEM, TEM, AFM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, etc.

  • Experience with nanofabrication technologies, such as nanoimprint lithography.

  • Expertise in the design and characterization of metamaterials and optoelectronic devices.

  • A robust publication record in high-impact journal.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities in a research-intensive environment.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
