Asia Metals Correspondent

Reuters is seeking an outstanding journalist with strong source-building skills, great story ideas and a track record of breaking news to join our Singapore-based team as Asia Metals Correspondent. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the market dynamics of industrial metals including copper, nickel and lithium, as well as of China’s role as a top producer and consumer. Global interest in metals is high, as demand surges from new energy technologies and the rivalry between China and the West fuels an increasingly intense scramble to secure resources.

The Asia Metals Correspondent will get inside what is an often-opaque industry, working closely with colleagues in the region and globally to dig out market-moving stories that resonate with investors and industry participants as well as with a wider global audience.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Asia Metals Correspondent, you will:

  • Break news and write agenda-setting stories on metals production, pricing and trade flows.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Asia and globally, leveraging the power of the Reuters network.
  • Write stories that cut through industry jargon for both professional and media audiences.
  • Be able to connect the dots and explain the significance of industry and market developments.
  • Identify trends and explain them to a global audience.
  • Use graphics and other story-telling elements to maximize the utility of stories.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Asia Metals Correspondent if your background includes:

  • A track record of building sources and delivering scoops.
  • Experience covering metals or other commodity markets.
  • Experience as an effective team player, with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong writing
  • Relentless competitiveness
  • Mandarin language is an advantage.
