Manulife Pricing Interns are exposed to a multitude of modelling and pricing techniques, and will be involved in all stages of the pricing process. There is a strong learning culture within the team, and interns are encouraged to be pro-active about any questions or doubts they might have; be it to clarify about the tasks given, technical difficulties, or even actuarial concepts. Interns work on tasks that materially affect the pricing process, and the team does not shy away from trusting interns with more technically demanding jobs if capability in doing so is demonstrated.

Areas of learnings:

  • Act as peer reviewers of the team's pricing models. This involves exposure to AXIS (actuarial software), and gives interns insight into how each benefit and reserve component is modelled in a life-insurance company.
  • Custom pricing. Interns perform ad-hoc pricing on special requests to provide better value to customers, whilst not exceeding company risk appetite and lower bounds for profitability.
  • Build Policy illustration templates and calculations. These calculations will be used as reference for the IT team for building these new products in the Manulife's live illustration engine.
  • UAT testing for new product launches. This involves extensive use of excel and the writing of macro programs (VBA) to expedite the checking process.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s in Actuarial Science in universities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to commit for 6 months from January or Febraary on full or part time basis

Benefits:

  • Gain practical experience in a professional setting.
  • Mentorship from experienced actuaries.
  • Exposure to real-world actuarial projects and decision-making processes.
  • Networking opportunities within the company and the industry.
