Job Description:
bp Trading & Shipping One Year Internship Programme (2025)
bp is a global integrated energy company, creating long-term value by helping to meet growing demand for energy in a safe and responsible way.
At bp, energy trading comes together in our global bp Trading and Shipping group. It is where we link our experience as a leading energy producer with our knowledge of specific markets to provide customers with the energy products they need. The ever shifting geo-political, regulatory and environmental landscape provides an outstanding opportunity for high potential candidates to understand at the most granular level how energy drives the world.
We have opportunities for individuals to spend 14 months (full time) with our Trading Analytics & Insights team starting May 2025.
The team leverages math, logic, and interpersonal skills to translate everything - from geo-political events to local supply/demand distortions – into a market view that can be monetised through trading positions.
During the 14-month programme, you would primarily be supporting analysis work for short to long-term oil market fundamentals, with a strong focus on ship-tracking which is one of the pillars of oil trading fundamental analysis.
The work is fast paced and technically demanding. Successful candidates will have a fulfilling and meaningful experience as part of a highly commercial organisation.
Your Role
The work will provide exposure to the various data and methodologies employed in oil market analytics. You will be able to learn more about the regional energy markets and the underlying fundamentals. Individuals on the programme will be responsible for monitoring regional shipping flows for a particular portfolio (crude, distillates, fuel oil, gasoline or petrochemicals) across the Eastern Hemisphere region, and arbitrages to the west.
You will partner closely with the market strategists and traders on the tracking of arbitrage activity and maintain close relationships with other members on the trading bench including charterers, trading operators and trading exposure analysts. You will have the opportunity to participate in new development projects and contribute to the continuous improvements of our processes and models.
