The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

As part of this programme, the ASE Tropical Ecology & Entomology Lab is looking to hire a Research Associate for 2 years, to conduct research into the impacts of environmental change, climate change, and restoration initiatives on biodiversity in South East Asia. The successful candidate will work with the Biodiversity Cluster team of Professors, Research Fellows and PhD students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement studies on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in response to climate change in Singapore and SE Asia.

  • Curate existing datasets and develop models to predict species responses to environmental change.

  • Analyse data and interpret research findings.

  • Write and publish research result in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues both locally and internationally.

  • Mentor junior colleagues and students, as needed.

  • Organised and participate in outreach and educational activities.

  • Present research findings at conferences, workshops and grant meetings.

  • Ensure research projects are completed on time and within budget by managing routine administrative tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • Master in ecology or a closely related field, with a focus on biodiversity and ecosystem ecology.

  • Fieldwork experience in forested and/or urban ecosystems, preferably in the tropical environments.

  • Proficient in statistical modelling and programming, including predictive modeling, SEMS, and conservation prioritization techniques.

  • Strong team player with experience in team collaboration and coordination.

  • Proficient in managing biodiversity and environmental datasets.

  • Proven strong publication record is an advantage.

  • Proven ability to interpret and critically evaluate results, and to analyse and write up data.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to meet project, manuscript, and publication deadlines.

  • Strong oral presentation skills.

  • Ability to initiate experiments and to work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Adaptable and flexible with a collaborative approach and able to work effectively with colleagues and students from diverse cultural and backgrounds.

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and skills.

The successful candidate will join the growing Tropical Ecology and Entomology Lab group at ASE working under Assoc. Prof. Eleanor Slade, and become part of a vibrant, international scientific community.
