Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Sustainability & Sustainable Investments Officer, you will champion CapitaLand’s sustainability initiatives and deliver against ambitious sustainability targets to elevate our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts for sustainable operational excellence. You will foster a culture where sustainability is a core value and viewed as a lever for both risk management and value creation.
- Lead as a sustainability subject matter expert in CLI’s Private Equity Real Assets business and be responsible for all ESG-related matters in relation to CLI’s private equity funds.
- Establish and execute a comprehensive sustainability strategy for private funds, in alignment with CLI’s global Sustainability Master Plan 2030, tailoring it to fit each fund’s specific business strategy and sustainability objectives.
- Develop sustainability plans and decarbonisation pathways for asset portfolios under different private funds, working together with the respective fund managers.
- Support the capital raising team in creating pitches showcasing CLI’s ESG credentials and case studies.
- Engage with private fund investors as CLI’s sustainability expert, addressing investor feedback and showcasing our sustainability capabilities.
- Develop sustainability reports as required to be part of the regular fund investors' reporting framework.
- Complete investor due diligence questionnaires and lead various ESG-related industry surveys and benchmarks like GRESB and UNPRI, among others.
- Support Environmental Health & Social Impact Analysis for all new investments, as well as provide portfolio-level environmental data analytics for private fund assets.
- Partner with business leaders to ensure that new investments and existing assets are aligned with sustainability targets and identify how sustainability initiatives can create or improve value.
- Monitor and report on emerging global sustainability trends and regulatory updates to inform business strategies.
- Showcase ESG thought leadership as one of the senior sustainability spokespersons for CLI at industry events, panels, seminars, workshops, etc.
Requirements
- Excellent degree in a technical field (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, or other similar areas).
- More than 15 years of work experience, with recent experience in sustainability roles, preferably in corporates, private equity, fund managers, or consultants, among others. Experience in real estate or technical experience in environmental sustainability is an advantage.
- Good working knowledge of international green building standards, carbon accounting frameworks, global ESG-related surveys and indices, and sustainability-related regulations in CLI’s key markets.
- High level of business acumen and strategic agility.
- Ability to influence and make recommendations to Senior Leadership on areas ranging from strategy to policy, processes, governance, and reporting.
- Extremely strong stakeholder engagement skills, showcasing the ability to engage, establish collaborative relationships, and build trust with various stakeholders, as well as lead cross-functional groups.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Prepared to travel overseas occasionally for work.
