The Senior Research Fellow – Microscopy and Spectroscopy will work collaboratively with the researchers from the Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) on projects involving advanced optical microscopy and spectroscopy (super-resolution microscopy, time-resolved fluorescence), publish research results and apply for research funding to support research projects centered around advanced microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with IDMxS researchers integrating state-of-the-art imaging, microscopy, and spectroscopy solution in advanced research projects involving materials chemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology.
- Manage a suite of advanced microscopy and spectroscopy infrastructure, including stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED) super-resolution microscopy, time-resolved spinning disc confocal fluorescence microscopy, Total Internal reflection fluorescence microscopy, dark field microscopy, optical, Raman, and fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, and fluorescence lifetime imaging.
- Analyse microscopy images and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy data and develop analysis pipelines.
- Monitor the performance of high-end optical microscopes, troubleshoot technical issues and liaise with external vendors on repairs and servicing.
- Develop advanced microscopy and spectroscopy capabilities at IDMxS to meet the demands of research projects. Source for technologies needed and implement novel microscopy and spectroscopy techniques at IDMxS.
- Keep up-to-date on the latest advances in AI-driven image analyses and the latest software developments
- Publish research in scientific journals.
- Apply for competitive research funding and manage funded research projects.
- Mentor junior researchers in students in optical microscopy, spectroscopy and related data analysis.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines and at least 5 years of relevant research experience.
- Experience with various modalities of advanced optical microscopy (including confocal and super-resolution microscopy).
- Experience with time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and/or fluorescence lifetime imaging.
- Experience with stimulated emission depletion microscopy (STED) is an advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of the principles of optical microscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Experience with microscopy image analysis and data analysis in time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Strong publication record.
- Experience with application for competitive research funding is an advantage.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on interdisciplinary research projects.
- Ability to balance multiple research projects, meet deadlines and effectively collaborate with partners of different backgrounds and levels of expertise.
