Job Summary
Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Research Fellow to lead research on the ectomycorrhizal fungi and associated microbial communities in Dipterocarpaceae tree species across urban and forested landscapes in Singapore. This position plays a key role in advancing knowledge on plant-microbe interactions, contributing to conservation and ecological health of Dipterocarpaceae trees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead fieldwork initiatives for the survey and collection of soils associated with the ectomycorrhizal fungi and microbiome of Dipterocarpaceae tree species across diverse environments in Singapore.
- Conduct health assessments of surveyed Dipterocarp trees, gathering data to compare markers of healthy and unhealthy specimens.
- Coordinate with the National Parks Board (NParks) for site access and to ensure accurate sampling locations.
- Perform assays to quantify soil properties and nutrient content in collaboration with team members.
- Conduct untargeted metabolomics on soil samples to identify microbial and metabolite profiles.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to drive research objectives and achieve project outcomes.
Qualification
- PhD in Plant Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven field experience in sample collection and ecosystem surveys.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
