Reuters is looking for an experienced, energetic and versatile journalist for the role of Singapore Correspondent.
The role will include primarily covering breaking news including decisions by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, key economic indicators as well as any societal trends and happenings that will interest Reuters’ global readership. The successful candidate will also be able to develop in-depth initiative stories in consultation with our bureau chief correspondent.
A diverse city-state of 5.5 million people, Singapore is Southeast Asia’s financial hub, with a recent sharp surge in capital inflows from individuals and institutions looking to avoid China risk. Foreign workers – from expatriate financiers to high-tech professionals to construction workers – make up one-fifth of the population.
Recently high-volume flow of capital into Singapore has brought worries of how to , after the undercovering of a money-laundering case. Singapore also holds a distinctive role in geopolitics. It has close economic and diplomatic ties to both Beijing and Washington – and each year is host to the that gathers security officials and experts from around the world.
About the Role
As Singapore Correspondent, you will:
- Keep Reuters competitive in the high-pressure race to be first with Singapore central bank decisions and key economic indicators.
- Build sources among local business and government leaders.
- Write quick, concise and clean news stories.
- Work with the Singapore chief correspondent to coordinate daily coverage, brainstorm to spot trends and cooperate to develop insightful, deeply reported initiatives.
About You
You’re a fit for the Singapore Correspondent role if your background includes:
- At least two years of experience in journalism.
- Aptitude in reporting on monetary policy, macroeconomics and general news.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collegial team spirit.
- A proven ability to produce clean, concise news copy at speed and under pressure.
- A record of breaking exclusive news and delivering agenda-setting initiative stories.
