What will you be doing?
Argus is looking for a talented, experienced, and versatile journalist to join us as the Chief News Editor / Bureau Chief. This fabulous opportunity will suit someone who has experience writing and editing real-time online news and is excellent at managing intelligent, creative people and helping them excel.
You will oversee the operational management of the news and editing team reporting to this role, be responsible for the news content and define a clear editorial strategy and a consistent tone of voice in our news coverage. You will work closely with the Managing Editor, the Editor-in-Chief, News Editors around the world, Editorial Managers and other members of the Asia and regional leadership team on long-term news strategy and policy in Asia.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of our Asia news desk.
- Help drive a bright, positive, and agile team culture by constantly looking for new ways of working that will increase the quality of Argus’ output and ensure we are focused on the work that counts.
- Manage, inspire, and mentor a small team, ensuring relevant news is covered with high quality daily.
- Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and other senior editorial colleagues to develop/support new editorial-led special products, such as special reports and feature stories that contribute to revenue growth and subscriptions.
- Edit stories, ensuring they are compelling and adhere to Argus standards.
- Work with the team to implement and maintain editorial standards.
- Oversee consistent, high-quality hiring and training of our Asian editorial team.
- Conduct mid-year and end-of-year employee performance reviews.
What we’re looking for in you
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, economics, business, history or relevant field.
- Has experience reporting or running a desk in a newsroom.
- Demonstrated writing skills, including strong grammatical knowledge, research, and copy-editing skills.
- Experience covering commodities or a related area is preferred, but not essential.
- Exceptional degree of organisational skills.
- Excited about leading the charge but isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
- Flexible and excited by fast-paced, frequently changing work environments.
- A strong work ethic, including operating calmly under pressure.
- Passionate about mentoring journalists.

Travel
- 0-10% is expected for this position.
Hours
Monday through Friday, 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.
