Position Title: Accountant
Reports To: Finance Director
Job Overview: The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and performing accounting tasks that ensure the accuracy and compliance of the company’s financial practices. This role is essential in supporting the financial operations of the bunker industry, which includes the procurement and supply of marine fuel.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management review.
Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Manage invoicing, payments, and collections related to bunker transactions.
Reconcile accounts payable and receivable ledgers to ensure accurate account balances.
Review and verify vendor invoices and payment requests.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
Analyze variances between actual and budgeted figures and provide explanations.
Compliance & Auditing:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
Assist in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Maintain records for tax purposes and ensure timely tax filings.
Financial Controls:
Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
Review and recommend improvements to financial processes and systems.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the trading and operations teams to ensure the accuracy of financial data related to bunker transactions.
Miscellaneous:
Stay updated with industry trends, including fluctuations in fuel prices and their potential impact on financial operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent qualification is preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the maritime or energy sector.
Strong understanding of financial reporting.
Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Familiarity with the bunker industry or maritime operations is a plus.
Working Conditions:
Office-based.
May require extended hours during peak periods or when preparing for audits.
