The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the engineering and delivery of mechanical and structural aspects of construction under direction from the Construction Manager. Their activities will involve coordinating design and construction efforts, resolving on site engineering issues and planning and tracking productivity targets.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Technical
- Design, integration & coordination, installation & commissioning of mechanical systems and services required for the project
- Liaise with Construction/Installation Manager to ensure job is on schedule on Site.
- Liaise with Client on all technical aspects of the project.
- Provides engineering advice for the Construction/Installation Team.
- Attends meetings with client on all disciplines of the work (i.e. 1 etc.) as required.
- Prepares with the Quality Manager all Inspection and Test Plans and associated Project Specific Procedures.
- Ensures that the quality requirements of the client are adhered to and that company procedures are followed.
- Coordination & integration of the design with other engineering design disciplines & services
- Ensure project timetabling requirements are met
- Development / production of inspection & test and operating & maintenance manual documentation.
- Ensure local regulatory and OHS requirements are maintained
- Ensure that the surveys of installations throughout the project are conducted in a professional manner with all results being reviewed and accepted by UGL. All actions resulting from these surveys are coordinated by the Engineer until completion.
- Provides written reports on engineering activities as required by the Project Manager.
- Mentor Engineering Graduates and Engineering Vacation Students (Engineering Assistant)
- Maintain documentation and registers
- Provide monthly reporting data to the Engineering Manager as required
Safety
- Undertake all responsibilities in a safe manner.
- Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors and visitors.
- Participate in daily pre-start meetings.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, pre-work checklists and risk assessments.
- Comply and have input into safe working procedures.
- Report hazards, incidents and accidents within company guidelines.
- Assist with safety sections for reports, tenders and proposals.
- Actively participate in safety training.
Other
- Prepare and implement Workpacks, including ITPs
- Detailed planning and engineering of works
- Procurement of suppliers and subcontractors
- Subcontractor and Supplier Management
- Monitor, control and update program and productivity metrics
- Enthusiastically and co-operatively undertake all site inductions as requested by the client.
- Proactively continuously monitor and evaluation systems and procedures specific to site works to ensure that they are up to date, compliant and up-to-date in line with best practice.
- Actively participate in regular learning and development programs to continually enhance and further develop skills and continuously improve capabilities and performance.
- Portray a professional approach at all times through attitude and appearance.
- Ensure that work space is well managed, tidy, organised and safe.
- Comply with all UGL systems and processes and expected behaviours and standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Mechanical Engineering Qualification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in project related disciplines.
- Significant engineering experience throughout, design, construction and commissioning on Brownfields and Greenfields projects.
- Technical experience includes; rotating equipment, static equipment, GE equipment, materials selection, hydraulic systems, pipelines and piping components
- Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands
- Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
- Leadership ability
