Job Summary:

The Lead Instrument Engineer (FPSO) will be responsible for the design, integration, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems on Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units. This role involves leading the instrumentation engineering team, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. The Lead Instrument Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality instrumentation solutions for FPSO projects, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the instrumentation engineering scope for FPSO projects, including conceptual design, FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), detailed engineering, and construction support.
  • Develop and review instrumentation specifications, datasheets, and material requisitions in accordance with project requirements.
  • Ensure the integration of instrumentation systems with other disciplines (electrical, mechanical, process, etc.) to achieve seamless operation.
  • Oversee the design and configuration of control and safety systems, such as DCS (Distributed Control Systems), ESD (Emergency Shutdown), and F&G (Fire and Gas) systems.
  • Manage the selection, procurement, and installation of field instruments, valves, transmitters, and related hardware.
  • Ensure all instrumentation complies with relevant codes, standards (e.g., IEC, ISA), and safety regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership during commissioning, start-up, and operation of FPSO systems.
  • Review and approve vendor documents, technical drawings, and instrumentation datasheets.
  • Perform risk assessments and participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) reviews.
  • Coordinate with project management, construction teams, and clients to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and ensuring the development of technical skills within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation engineering, with a focus on offshore oil and gas projects, including FPSOs.
  • Strong knowledge of offshore instrumentation systems, including control systems, ESD, and F&G systems.
  • Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, ISA, and other relevant offshore regulations.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing instrumentation scopes for large-scale projects.
  • Experience in HAZOP, SIL (Safety Integrity Level), and risk assessment processes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in offshore environments and travel as required.
