Job description

This role resides in the Group Centre of Excellence (GCOE), Solar Technology Department, reporting to the Head of Solar Technology of GCOE.

As the Solar Technical Manager, you will be responsible for allocated Markets assets covering full life cycle of a Solar Project starting from Solar Project Development, Execution and the O&M phase of the assets. You will assist the Head Solar in the value additions to the specific markets.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Governance

  • Monitor and Steward Assets Performance and recommend improvement measures for allocated renewable Markets
  • Implement and Drive Assets’ Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Performance Improvement initiatives across Markets.
  • Develop and maintain asset performance dashboards and reporting tools to provide clear visibility on asset performance.
  • Prepare regular performance reports for senior management, highlighting key performance indicators and trends.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local teams in the various markets to drive consistent performance across the portfolio.
  • Drive L2 Assessment during Project Execution and O&M phase

Consistency

  • Lead the implementation and revision of group policies, standards and guidelines for whole project lifecycle (e.g. Project Development, Project Execution, Operation and Maintenance.
  • Lead the development of Standardization of Assets Performance Data Monitoring Platform across all Sembcorp Assets.
  • Lead functional reviews (e.g. Technical Due Diligence) for greenfield and brownfield renewable assets and support the project development phase (e.g. testing & commissioning of renewable assets)
  • Conduct technical verification (e.g., L2 Assurance) of renewable assets using the Integrated Assurance Framework (IAF), assessing the effectiveness and adequacy of key controls to ensure comprehensive quality assurance and control.
  • Conduct thorough qualifications of key equipment used in solar power generation (e.g. Modules, Inverters, MMS)
  • Ensure that all renewable assets adhere to Sembcorp’s policies and standards, promoting consistency and quality across all markets.

Excellence

  • Support Markets in identifying production losses, analyzing the root cause(s) and proposing improvements to the assets with objectives of improving asset reliability and financial performance.
  • Support Markets in Assets Performance Improvement by leading initiatives using Industry/ Sembcorp Markets’ Best Practices (e.g. Test Bedding Emerging Technology)
  • Support Markets to build technical competency via technical training and competency certifications.
  • Lead the development and execution of group-wide optimization initiatives/ innovation aimed at improving the overall performance of the solar asset portfolio.
  • Collaborate with project teams to evaluate the impact of design choices (e.g. LCOE optimization) on long-term asset performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and recommend corrective actions.
  • Commit to stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements to incorporate innovative solutions into optimization strategies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 12-17 years of experience in detailed engineering, project management, or operations & maintenance within the solar renewable power generation industry.
  • Minimum University degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Strong understanding of PV Module technology and in-depth knowledge of PVSyst software or equivalent modelling software.
  • Experience in technical due diligence for PV Modules and Inverters, including project execution quality.
  • Experience with performance and improvement of other renewable energy assets (e.g., BESS, Wind) is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Excellent presentation skills with high proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Proactive, resourceful, with strong problem-solving and execution skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to Sembcorp’s operational regions.
  • Experience in techno-commercial analysis and solar plant design optimization.
  • Established connections with PV Module and Inverter vendors is preferred.
  • Multi-country experience is preferred.
